She is passionate about all areas of primary care, but has a particular interest in paediatrics, women's health issues, and diabetes. She enjoys parenting her 4 children, fitness, and reading.

Laura is a GP who grew up in the north of England and did all of her medical training in Scotland. After 5 years of working as a full time GP in Edinburgh she moved to Gisborne in September 2015 and joined the practice known as Desmond Road Health at that time. Laura has fully embraced the challenge of a changing model of service delivery from Desmond Road Health GP practice to The Doctors Te Whare Hapara, team approach based on Whanau Ora concepts.
Laura has built up a strong following of patients in the last year she has been with us. Laura strives to improve their health and wellbeing through good medical care, education and health promotion. Particular areas of clinical interest include minor surgery, women's health, sexual health, family planning and palliative care.
Interests outside of work include walking, cooking and music. She plays the flute, piccolo and saxophone and plays with both the Gisborne Concert Band and the Civic Orchestra. She has felt very welcomed into the local community and looks forward to staying here long term.

Lacey Burnett is a United States trained and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with over 12 years of professional nursing experience. As an FNP, she is trained to treat the entire family, from infancy to older adulthood. Her care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of the majority of conditions that may present to primary care with the understanding that some individuals need a collaborative approach with other members of the health care team, including physician and specialty care.
She worked for several years as a Registered Nurse in multiple acute care settings, including Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Critical Care Flight Nursing. After experiences working in clinic in New Zealand, she discovered her passion for primary care and its role in disease prevention, early detection, and chronic illness management. She then completed a Masters of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice studies at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.
She enjoys getting to know her clients and strives to foster a holistic, collaborative, and therapeutic relationship which encourages active participation to improve health and functional status. She hopes her work as a nurse practitioner will help decrease health disparities and improve population health, especially for underserved, rural, vulnerable, and marginalized individuals, families, and populations. Lacey and her family recently relocated from the U.S. and are looking forward to settling in to work and life in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Through a heavy patient workload and Singapore’s multiracial society, Dr Tan has developed sensitivity to working with patients from diverse backgrounds. He has a strong clinical knowledge developed through his work in primary, urgent and family care and has a graduate diploma in family medicine.

Dr Kim graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 2002 with a Royal Air Force scholarship. She served with the British Military as a Medical Officer and completed her GP training in Scotland. She moved to New Zealand in 2009 and spent 12 years living and practising in the Hutt Valley. She loves cycling and is a former New Zealand representative cyclist and was the World 24 Hour MTB Champion in 2014. She is married with two boys aged 4 and 2.

Dr Justin Tweedale grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, where he completed his medical degree at the University of Cape Town before moving to the UK with his wife and children. He qualified as a GP in the UK and worked for seventeen years in general practice in Winchester. Justin returned to work as a GP partner in private practice in East London, South Africa, for three years, before coming to the Bay of Plenty. Justin's areas of special interest in medicine are diabetes, paediatrics, and functional medicine. He is thriving on the Kiwi lifestyle and living in beautiful Tauranga.

Dr Justin Pratt grew up in Napier and attended Otago University School of Medicine graduating in 1992. He qualified as a GP in 1997 and joined The Doctors team in 2003. Post graduate studies took him to the UK and Australia before settling with his young family back in Napier. His area of specialist interest is skin cancer diagnosis and surgery and he has dedicated skin cancer sessions both at the practice and for the local DHB. He is an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Outside of work he enjoys a rich family life with his wife, three kids(all adults now)and the cat and enjoys tennis, playing bass and on occasion surfing!

Julie is a New Zealand trained local registered nurse (RN) with many years of primary care nursing in our community and a longstanding member of the practice team. She has developed a very broad range of primary care nursing skills. Julie enjoys learning and has continued her nursing studies and completed a Master of Nursing and more recently gained the authority to prescribe medicines for patients attending the nurse clinics.
The new RN designated prescriber role allows nurses who work in collaboration with GP’s and have successfully completed advanced education and certification to prescribe medicines from a specified list. The RN can assess, diagnose and treat common conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, skin infections, sexual health etc.
Julie is passionate about supporting people to gain confidence in management of their long-term conditions. She has completed advanced education in diabetes and associated health problems, and is able to provide specialised diabetes care to our growing population of people with diabetes. Being able to prescribe medicines has made a difference for patients attending the nurse clinic and frees up the GP’s time to see more complicated patients.

John Mayhew is an experienced GP with over 30 years in general practice. Has post graduate qualifications in Sports Medicine, Obstetrics and Occupational Medicine and was a team doctor for the All Blacks for 15 years and NZ Warriors for 14 years. In 2016 he received ONZM for his services to Sports Medicine. He is currently CMO of AIA Insurance and medical director for NZ Rugby League and North Harbour Rugby. He is also the director of the NZ Rugby Foundation caring for disabled players. John is a former board member of Drugfree Sport NZ. He is married with 4 adult children - 3 sons are professional rugby players. He went to Rosmini College and Auckland University.
Dr Mayhew is currently only working 8 hours a week in our clinic.

John first started as a General Practitioner in Albany in 1985 working in solo practice until 2001 at which time he joined Paul and Philip at the current address. For many years he functioned as an examiner for the Royal New Zealand College of GP's and currently is a teaching partner with the Department of General Practice at the University of Auckland. In his spare time (when he gets some!) he enjoys painting, fishing and playing guitar.

I graduated from medical school "Kovsies" University of the Orange Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1991 and emigrated to New Zealand in 1994.
