Doctor Shomel Gauznabi is a GP and Urgent Care Doctor and has a background in Adult General Medicine, Palliative Medicine and Paediatric Medicine.
He is an NZ medical graduate who completed his junior doctor years as a House Officer and Registrar in Auckland. He occasionally works in Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Australia. He is also skilled in minor skin procedures and joint and intralesional steriod injections.
Shomel has an active involvement in medical education at The University of Auckland. In his free time, he loves to spend time with family, play and watch sports, snowboard and cook. Overall he is passionate about community care and looking after local families and patients.

Shelley is vocationally trained as a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practice and has a BA in Psychology. With over 30 years in general practice, she has special interests in well health, motivational counselling, young people, and maximising health for those with intellectual challenges. Shelley enjoys time with her two adult children, walks on the beach every morning with her dog, and likes to ski and read.

I have lived in Queenstown for around 22 years (almost a local). I’m married to Neville and have two adult boys born and raised in Queenstown. I love living in the Whakatipu basin with all the outdoor activities from the walks to the vineyards. I have worked at The Doctors for about 3 years now and love the interaction with patients and the amazing team I work with.

Séan trained in Zoology Botany, Oceanography and having worked on the ocean decided to return to the University of Capetown to study medicine. He was born and bred in Zimbabwe. He was conscripted into the army there which in the end assisted him in immigrating to New Zealand and being employed by the NZ Defence Force for a few years. He coached the NZ Army rugby team in Waiouru and travelled extensively within New Zealand before settling in Tauranga.
He has worked in the past in the UK, Canada and South Africa but is now firmly settled in New Zealand. His current interests are sports medicine which included Team Doctor for provincial rugby team, sleep medicine and skin surgery but also thoroughly enjoys being a General Practitioner and has not given up any aspects of family medicine. Sean’s interests are broad and varied and he would love to share those with any new patients.

Dr Sarah Redfern is a born and bred, beach loving Aucklander who feels right at home at St Heliers Medical. She graduated from Otago Medical School in 1991 and has worked as a GP for 20 years in practices in South Auckland and Mt Eden before joining St Heliers in 2016.
Sarah enjoys the wide variety of general practice and has a special interest in skin cancer medicine.
A keen runner (when her hamstrings allow), tramper (making her way through the Great Walks of NZ and more), skier and world traveller. She is the mother of 2 busy teenagers spending most of her spare time supporting cycling, football and rowing events,as well as walking her chocolate Labrador. She is married to David, a mountain loving Cantabrian who saw the light and moved to Auckland more than 20 years ago!

After completing her Medical degree at the University of Otago in 2012, Sarah then worked at Dunedin Hospital in various departments. She also spent some time in 2018 as a Paediatric Registrar in Dunedin.
Sarah then moved to Auckland to pursue her training in General Practice. She is currently a member of The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and joined the great team at The Doctors Onehunga in December 2019.
Sarah enjoys all aspects of General Practice but has a special interest in Women’s and Children’s Health, Preventative Medicine and Spiritual Health. She is married with two children.

I am originally from Colorado in the US where I graduated from Medical School in 2000. After 10 years of practicing in rural Colorado, I moved to New Zealand in 2010 and settled in the Bay of Plenty in 2012. I have special areas of training and interest in Travel Medicine, Women’s Health, Palliative Care, and Sports Medicine. I have been active my whole career investing in the next generation of doctors through teaching medical students and registrars. Outside of work, I enjoy all the wonderful outdoor activities available in New Zealand from trail running and tramping, to swimming and mountain biking. I love to cook, am an avid reader and dog lover (currently with 2 retired greyhounds) and enjoy travelling.

I am Ruth Brennan, originally from Ireland. I graduated from the University College Dublin in 2014. After working in Ireland, I moved to New Zealand and worked in hospital medicine in Wellington and Hutt Valley, before becoming a GP in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. I have special interests in Women’s Health, Mental Health and Family Planning. Outside of work I enjoy scuba diving, yoga and ballet.

Ruth is from the UK, having grown up near Birmingham, and completing her medical training in Yorkshire. Since graduating from Leeds Medical School in 2005, Ruth has worked in hospitals and practices all over the UK, completing her post graduate GP training in 2012. The wife of a Naval Officer, Ruth has travelled extensively, including time living in Sydney, and New Zealand in 2013, when she worked here with the practice here in St Heliers. Ruth has now relocated permanently to New Zealand with her family, and is delighted to have re-joined our team.
Ruth has experience in all areas of general practice, with particular interests in women’s health, family planning and sexual health. She also has extensive emergency care experience.
Ruth lives with her husband and 2 young sons. She is a very keen open water swimmer, and spends much of her spare time racing after her boys on mountain bike trails.

My name is Ruben Wesselius, and I moved with my wife and two boys from Amsterdam to Aotearoa in September 2023. I received my medical degree (Msc.) in 2013 and, after working as a resident at General Surgery and Urology for 5 years, I enrolled in General Practitioner Training at the VU Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Since April 2021 I am registered as a General Practitioner. My special interests are in skin lesions, small surgical procedures, intra-articular injections and placing IUDs.

Hi, my name is Rosemary Unsworth. I am Nurse lead at the Doctors Fred Thomas and have been part of the nursing team at Fred Thomas since its opening in 2012, Prior to this I was part of the Nursing team at Hauraki Medical. Many of you will see me as one of the old faces of the practice.
I have completed My Masters in nursing and have a passion in supporting people with chronic care management especially in diabetes, Asthma and COPD. I have also completed a course with Hospice called POI, which supports holistic conversations with clients and whanau around planning for the future and supporting quality of life.
I enjoy learning and teaching, working with our nursing team to reach the top of their scope, and give our patients the best experience possible.
In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends, camping and watching sport.

Dr Parr is a NZ graduate from Otago Medical School with extensive and wide-ranging experience in general practice. He has worked in the Mt Wellington area for many years.
